Puttin’ On the Leash 2019 The Pet Gala
Presented by Flatirons Subaru, Puttin’ on The Leash 2019 Pet Gala is the place you want to be if you love these furry four-legged friends as much as we do! The Humane Society of Boulder Valley has proudly served Boulder Colorado for years, providing a safe comfortable place for furry friends in need. The Annual HSBV Pet Gala at the Petropolitan Mewsam of Art is a night full of cuisine from Boulder and Broomfield’s finest restaurants and libations, furry friends up for adoption and even a silent auction! Not only are we proud attendees of this wonderful event, but we also donate our Millet Tots to be served at the Gala. Who knows, maybe this year you’ll find us at the adoption station bringing home a new furry friend! All money goes directly to The Boulder Valley Humane society. Cooking Matters is a program by Share Our Strength, a non-profit dedicated to ending childhood hunger and promoting healthy lifestyle habits. Cooking Matters provides a free six-week class to individuals with health complications like diabetes or high blood pressure who are also facing food insecurity. Participants learn about nutrition, food safety, cooking healthy on a budget and other ways to improve their health through diet. At the end of every class, participants will cook a meal together and are sent home with a bag of groceries to make the recipe they made in class at home, all free of charge. Here at Rollingreens, it probably isn’t a surprise that we are strong believers that indeed, Cooking DOES Matter! This non-profit is perfectly aligned with our belief that cooking nutritious wholesome food is not only a fun way to get family and friends together but can have impeccable effects on our overall health, happiness, and quality of life. Every year, Share Our Strength hosts Chefs Up Front, a Gala committed to connecting like-minded individuals in the food industry and raising money for charities that promote health in underserved communities. This year, Rollingreen’s very own Chef Ko auctions off his personal chef services to raise money for families who are food insecure. We are so passionate about the effort Share our Strength makes to better communities across the country through health education, we truly feel honored to be a part of this event! In September of 2013, back when Rollingreens was still just a food truck at the Boulder farmers market, Colorado experienced one of the most destructive floods it had seen in years. From September 11th through the 15th, Boulder Colorado experienced more than 18 inches of rain, “causing 25 to 100-year flooding along Boulder’s 15 drainage waves. As a result, Boulder County including the City of Boulder was designated a Federal Disaster Area”(bouldercolorado.gov). While all kinds of natural disasters occur in Colorado year-round between avalanches, snowstorms and wild winds, the 2013 flood had a detrimental effect destroying roads, buildings and leaving many homeless. With the entire city of Boulder in a state of distress, we saw an opportunity to make a positive impact on a devastating situation by donating over 2,000 meals home cooked meals over a two week period, to those in need. Unfortunately, we couldn’t rebuild every home that the flood destroyed, or donate the millions of dollars needed to repair the city, but the one thing we do know how to do well is cook, so that’s what we did. We are so eternally grateful for the supportive community Boulder has provided us, it was the least we could do for a city that has done so much for us.
As some of you die-hard Rollingreens fans know, Rollingreens started out as a food truck at Boulder farmers market serving up a number of dishes incorporating our famous millet tots. Every Sunday and Wednesday you could find us on Pearl Street whipping up favorites like breakfast burritos, salads, and even egg rolls! Our loyal patrons and fellow natural food vendors of the Boulder Farmers Market were such an inspiration for us to take Rollingreens to the next level and we are forever grateful for that little spot on the 13th Street Farmers Market that made us who we are today. We hope to make it back to the Boulder Farmers Market as soon as possible to support our fellow natural food connoisseurs and support local food vendors!
We are always looking for new ways to get involved in the community and different opportunities to give back. If you are interested in partnering with us, please email us at- Rollingreensfood@gmail.com.
